This is a blog aimed at raising awareness at the unprecedented rise in scams that had happened since COVID-19 struck in March 2020. I work in an industry where I am in contact with numerous people who have been scammed in various ways and have lost money as a result.

Some have lost hundreds of thousands; some have been lucky and have lost a small amount. Regardless of the amount of money lost, the commonality between them all is that they have all been scammed, conned or tricked in one way or another.

Some have been victim to Romance Scams, some have fallen victim to Investment Scams, and some have been tricked by telephone calls from people pretending to be law enforcement, government personnel or staff working for the bank.

It’s frightening and alarming at the number of ways people have fallen victim to various scams. In my career I see how devastating it can be to be a victim of a scam. I have witnessed firsthand the effect it has on the victim’s lives, marriages and health, both physically, mentally and emotionally.

Dealing with these victims has inspired me to create this blog. The aim of the blog, as previously mentioned, is to raise awareness into as many scams as I can. I aim to discuss how the scam usually unfolds, give examples of narratives that may be used, what the aim of the scam is, how you can protect yourself, what to do if you have fallen victim and what to expect.

This is not going to be a perfect blog, there will be scams on here that I haven’t covered or I am not aware of. You may read a scam and think “that’s not how it played out with me”. Not every scam will be the same from person to person, however, there will be similarities in the narratives used or the methods used, and it’s these similarities I aim to try and make people aware of. If you are contacted by a scammer then hopefully you will pick up on the similarities in the narratives or methods they use and hopefully you will realise it is a scam before you incur any financial loss.

Last thing to mention is, what I write is not financial advice. I am not a financial adviser in any way, shape or form. I am purely here to raise awareness at the multitude of scams in the hope that the reader becomes more vigilant and will become less likely to be a victim of a scam.

As I have stated before my main aim of this blog is to raise awareness in the different type of scams that exist so that less people fall victim.
